The European Junior Championships in Badminton take the Clean Win message to the European Badminton Family

The U19 European championships will be held in the Vantaan Energia Arena from 15 to 24 April 2011. Altogether 31 countries will compete in the team championships from 15 to 19 April, and the individual championships from 19 to 24 April will have participants from 35 countries. The Clean Win programme, honouring clean athletes and the values of fair play, has a prominent place in the championships.

“The Clean Win programme is a hit. I challenge all badminton players in Finland to sign the petition on behalf of clean sport,” says Anu Nieminen, the top badminton player who has represented Finland in three Olympic Games.

Finland’s junior team in badminton is taking the message of clean sport to their fellow competitors from all around the world. The entire Finnish team has signed the petition on behalf of clean sport and challenges the other national teams to do the same.

“Our entire team is committed to clean sport and wants to bring the message of fair play forth in many ways. Our team in the European Junior Championships wears golden shoelaces, the emblem of the Clean Win programme. Hopefully Anu’s challenge is taken up widely throughout the field. Furthermore, we challenge all players of squash, our sister sport, to sign the petition in their European championships taking place at the end of April,” comments Mika Heinonen, General Secretary of Badminton Finland.

The Clean Win programme is a joint endeavour of FINADA and Fazer. The programme’s stand at the European Junior Championships is open on Saturday 16 April from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and on Sunday 17 April from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. At the stand you can sign the major petition on behalf of clean sport and test how well you recognise the brilliant sporting stars of the Clean Win programme. Welcome!
