Finnish Open International 22.-25.4.2010, Energia Areena Vantaa

The second day of the tournament had once again many withdrawals and therefore walkovers as a consequence. The Italian team had probably the most interesting trip to Vantaa. They flew from Italy to Sweden after which they proceeded to Finland by ship. The effort paid off since two players from the Italian team, Taufiq Hidayat Akbar and Wisnu Haryo Putro proceeded to Saturday’s quarter finals.

One of the most intriguing matches of the day was a fight between third seeded Raul Must from Estonia and Sven Eric Kastens from Germany. The match lasted 57 minutes and after three games was finally won by Must 19-21, 21-19, 21-15.

In women’s singles France’s Perrine Lebuhanic defeated the first seeded Finland’s Anu Nieminen 21-13, 21-18.

In mixed doubles the first seeded pair, Denmark’s Mikkel Delbo Larsen and Mie Schjott-Christensen won Finnish pair Jesper von Hertzen/Jenny Nyström 21-8, 21-9 and will proceed to the quarter finals.

Women’s doubles had only two matches. Ksenia Polikarpova/Anastasia Kharlampovich from Russia won Finland’s Anu Nieminen and Nina Weckström. In men’s doubles the first seeded pair Sebastien Vincent and Laurent Constantin from France won Russia’s pair Viktor Malutin/Nikolay Ukk and will meet Sweden’s Oscar Kruse/Mathias Fernström at the quarter finals.
